Winter Penguin Card

Hello friends! I hope you had a good weekend! We did a lot of things this weekend: went to two Christmas markets, decorated for Christmas and got a tree, took photos for the Christmas cards (a little late since we had been waiting for snow, but we had to do it without snow this year), and also took a really nice walk.

We have a photo inspired challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Blog this week, and our theme is Icy Photo Inspiration. I was inspired by all the snow on the photos to create a winter scene card.

It is the first Monday of a new month, and as always on that day, the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge team showcases products from a specific company or designer. This time it is Paper Artsy, which has a wide range of stamps and fun coloring products. If you have any of their products, it is fun if yo use them, but you don't need to in order to join the challenge.

Don't miss the gorgeous project by our December guest designer Valarie-Jael, with her blog Bastelmania

Layers of ink - Winter Penguin Card by Anna-Karin Evaldsson with Paper Artsy Infusions

Have you seen all the new DieCember dies released by SSS just before the weekend? There are so many stunning dies, and here I used one of them, the Picture Book Hugging Penguin. Is she not adorable? I love the effects you can get with Paper Arty's Infusions Coloured Stains, and I used them to create my the icy background for this card.

I started out with a sheet of watercolor paper. On the half to the left, I misted the paper with water first and then sprinkled in the Infusions - A Bit Jaded and In The Navy. On the half to the right, I sprinkled the Infusions first and then misted with water. You only need a tiny amount of powder. I added more water to the side on the left too, and dabbed some of the color away. I like both the more fluid and smooth effect, and the more speckled and textured effect to the right.

I cut a piece that was 11 x 22 cm and folded that into a square card. I like the look of the color continuing onto the back of the card. When it was dry, I stamped it with a small flower stamps from the Paper Artsy Eclectica3 Lin Brown 22 set, which works just as well as a snowflake.

The penguin was die cut from watercolor paper and watercolored with Distress Inks. Yesterday, I posted another card with this penguin die, for the SSS DieCember blog hop, and then the penguin was die cut with wool felt.

Snowy layers were created by tearing vellum and embossing it in the Tiny Dots folder. I also used a fun sentiment from Tim Holtz Christmas Clippings stickers.

I also glued a whole bunch of sequins to the background, from the SSS Frosted pack. Here you can see the cool effect of the Infusions and all the different shades of blue, turquoise and brown.

The stamped flowers look even more like snowflakes with a sequin in the center.

  18. The background is gorgeous! I love the embossed vellum layers too. Did you just use the two colors of Infusions? It looks like there is some brown in there too.

    1. Thank you so much Amanda! I am sorry about the late reply. The Infusions pigment powders contain more than one color, that mix on the paper when you add water. That's why it looks like I used more colors. If you want less brown, you can dab off some of the brown specks before it dries. Happy crafting! / Anna-Karin
